The passing of a lovely lady.
It was with great sadness that we in the St Patrick's Society of Jakarta learned today 16th February 2011, of the sudden death of our wonderfully energetic committee member and dear friend, Ms Miree New. On behalf of St Patrick's we would like to extend our deepest sympathy to her three children Shannon, Cameron and Stephanie as well as to her parents and to the other members of her family.
Miree had a great many friends and hundreds of acquaintances in Jakarta. She was universally regarded with respect and affection as she had a great heart and got involved enthusiastically in many charitable societies. She had a larger than life personality and was great fun. Even during the past few months when she had not been well, Miree efficiently and tirelessly helped to organise many functions for us in St Patrick's and for other societies ultimately benefiting Jakarta's less fortunate people.
While Miree was a proud New Zealander, she often spoke of her Irish ancestors, the Keeleys of Waterford. We were blessed that she had that special affection.
As we say in Ireland:
Imithe ar aghaidh uainn - we will not see her likes again.
Mary Jane O'Brien,
President St Patrick's Society Jakarta.
Dear All,
ReplyDeleteAlistair, Cameron and Stephanie will be arriving in Jakarta sometime over the weekend. They will attend a small private cremation service after they arrive. A farewell wake will be organised and we will post details of this when known. In the meantime you are welcome to send flowers to the funeral home where she is -

Really shocked to hear this. Miree steered my recent relocation to Indonesia and went above and beyond the call of duty to make my move a smooth one.
ReplyDeleteMy thought are with all her friends and family.
